I thought it would be fun to share a few tips to maximize your experience with SP-1 by SelbySoft.

  1. Optimize your cafe pos menu.  If you have had SelbySoft for a while, you have probably made some menu changes on your own.  Do you sometimes think that the menu is “too complicate”?  Do you hear yourself saying, “I wish it were easier”?  If so, we probably need to look at how your menu is laid out.  While we love customers that take things into their own hands, sometimes you may add items and not be 100% certain of how to do it.  These small menu updates that are not done correctly wind up being a big mess in some cases.   Let our experts help you revise and correct your menu.  It will really enhance your ordering experience.
  2. Call and check for current updates.  We are constantly improving our point of sale system.  Take advantage of these updates and see what you might be missing.  Are you using our scheduling or credit card fee updates?  What about the changes made to the barista monitors?
  3. Add a free trial of MobileDash.  If you are out of the shop on a regular basis, try signing up for this.  Hourly emails to let you know exactly what is happening when you are not there.

Do you offer seasonal items?  Certain drinks or food that you only offer during different times of the year?   It could even be a special item you carry weekly or monthly.   SP-1 by SelbySoft has a special switch designed specifically for these situations.   The Inactive switch in Master Files allows you to turn off a menu item (or group) so the historical reporting is accurate but the item does not appear on the menu.

This switch has a cascading effect as well.  If you turn off the sandwich menu group then all items in that group are off.  If you mark tomato as inactive then only that item is affected.

This can be a great switch for making menu changes and even for designing a new menu group before implementing it for your staff. Simply turn it on and test it and then turn it off if you need to make more changes to the menu.

2013 is almost upon us!  Let’s take a look at three end of the year tips for SP-1.

1) Make an offsite backup of your data today.   Yes, if you are on a support plan with SelbySoft we backup your data nightly.  It still makes sense to have a complete backup of your data available on a USB drive or stored on a computer at home or the office just in case.    It is not difficult to do and our support department is here to help.

2) Review your menu sales.  Take a minute and run your Business Summary report so you can look at how effective your menu item sales are.  This is are great way to check and see if you need to rework the menu!

3) Check your timekeeping audit.  SP-1 records an audit log every time employee hours are changed in the master files section of SP-1.

Are you offering seasonal or holiday items? Every year we get the questions of what to do after the season or holidy has passed!

SP-1 has a built in switch to help with this. You may have noticed a the switch in Master Files called Inactive. When this is selected, the item no longer shows up on the menu but is still in the system.

The really neat thing is that this switch affects all the items below the level you are on. So if you turn off an ingredient it does not show up anymore. If you turn off a Menu Group, then the group size, specialties and ingredients for that Menu Group are hidden as well.

This can be a great switch for making menu changes and even for designing a new menu group before implementing it for your staff. Simply turn it on and test it and then turn it off if you need to make more changes to the menu.
